Texas AD Responds to NFL Interest in Steve Sarkisian: ‘That’s Stupid’

In a candid response to rumors about NFL teams expressing interest in Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian, the university’s Athletic Director dismissed the idea, calling it “stupid.” The remarks came amid speculation that Sarkisian’s recent success with the Longhorns had caught the attention of several professional teams.

“Coach Sarkisian has done an incredible job here, and we have no intention of letting him go,” the AD said in a press conference. “The idea that he would leave now, in the middle of building something special, is just not realistic. It’s stupid, frankly.”

Sarkisian, who led the Longhorns to an impressive season, signed a contract extension earlier this year that solidifies his position with the team through 2029. The new deal, which reportedly includes a significant raise, underscores the university’s commitment to keeping him in Austin.

While NFL interest in top college coaches is not uncommon, sources close to Sarkisian have indicated that he remains fully focused on his role with the Longhorns. The team is preparing for another strong campaign in the upcoming season, with Sarkisian aiming to bring a championship back to Texas.

The AD’s firm stance sends a clear message: Steve Sarkisian is staying put, and the Longhorns are poised for continued success under his leadership.
