Nigeria’s headline inflation rate has dropped to 24.48% year-on-year in January 2025, following the rebasing of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

There is a decline in the general price level of goods and services compared to 34.80% in December 2024, which was calculated using the previous methodology.

The recent rebasing of Nigeria’s CPI by the NBS significantly altered inflation metrics across the country.

The NBS updated the base year from 2009 to 2024, revised the weighting structure to reflect current spending patterns, and expanded the product basket to better capture household consumption. The shift from the Dutot index to the Jevon index also improved price measurement accuracy. While the revised CPI figures suggest lower inflation, the reality for many households remains unchanged, as food and essential goods continue to drive up living costs.

However, despite this methodological change, regional disparities in the cost of living persist, with some states remaining significantly more expensive than others.

The assumption was that if the Rams told Stafford to look for a trade destination that his time in Los Angeles would be done. That however appears to not be the case.

According to Senior News Writer Kevin Patra with NFL.com, Stafford and the Rams have come to terms on a new contract that will keep him in LA for at least one more season.

This news is pretty surprising because it isn’t too often that a player returns to their team after being told they can discuss with other teams about a trade. But the Rams and Stafford were able to come to terms on a deal to make that happen. Maybe the trade market for Stafford wasn’t as strong as the Rams thought, or maybe the new agreed upon deal is friendly for the Rams, regardless, Stafford will be with the Rams again next season for his fifth year with the team.

Next season for the Rams will be interesting because the Rams have made it clear that they wish to trade star receiver Cooper Kupp this offseason. Kupp has been one of Stafford’s most reliable targets, so that will be a big hurdle for him and the Rams to overcome.

But Stafford has made the playoffs three times in his four seasons with the Rams, which includes winning the Super Bowl in his first season with the organization, so there is a great chance the Rams will have a good year next season with Stafford at the helm.

The Los Angeles Lakers are on quite the roll led by their new superstar duo, LeBron James and Luka Doncic. LA has won 16 of its last 20 games, and the ability of these two basketball savants has certainly been on display.

After struggling in his first few games after the trade, Doncic has really come alive, averaging 24.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game in the last three contests.

As for James, he has been dominant all season, including since the blockbuster trade. In his six games alongside Doncic, the 40-year-old All-Star is averaging 25.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists.

The play of James, particularly alongside Doncic, has been drawing attention. This includes from his former NBA competitors.

On the Ticket & The Truth podcast, former Celtics stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce had quite the compliments for the franchise that was their biggest rival.

“If [James] is your second-best player on a championship team, dog, the [Western Conference] is in trouble,” said Pierce.

“[James] look like he back in Cleveland or [something],” said Garnett referencing the prime of James’ career.

Pierce went on to add, “This is gonna be a dangerous team come playoffs because when I look at the teams up top [of the Western Conference], you got youngins up there with hardly no experience.”

James had 33 points and 17 rebounds in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night, while Doncic added 21 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. LA’s new star duo is scary for the league, according to Pierce and Garnett.
