It’s early, but freshman sensation Cooper Flagg has lived up to expectations through the first two games of the 2024 college basketball season.
The 6-foot-9 forward is just 17 years old but has shown his vast potential in Duke basketball wins over Maine and Army. In his most recent outing, Flagg recorded his first double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks in 25 minutes.
Flagg and the No. 6 Blue Devils (2-0) take on No. 18 Kentucky (2-0) in the State Farm Champions Classic at 9 p.m. Tuesday from State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Even before playing his first game, Flagg was hyped as the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He was the top player in the 2024 recruiting class, picking the Blue Devils over two-time defending champions UConn despite reclassifying from the 2025 class to 2024.
Whenever Duke plays all season, the spotlight will be on Cooper, as he has the potential to be the best player in college basketball this season and has led the Blue Devils to a national championship.
Here’s what you need to know about Flagg, including his recruitment, stats and more:

Flagg committed to Duke over finalist UConn, making him the first top-ranked recruit addition for Jon Scheyer as Duke coach. Cooper is from Newport, Maine, but he attended Montverde Academy in Orlando. Flagg announced his commitment on social media with Slam Magazine. He reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024 and remained the top player.
Duke was originally what Flagg deemed his “dream school,” but he also highly considered defending national champion UConn following a visit to campus in September 2023. Flagg was joined by fellow five-star recruits Khaman Maluach (No. 4 overall), Isaiah Evans (No. 9 overall) and Kon Knueppel (No. 18 overall) as the top-ranked class in the 2024 cycle.
