Brian Branch Determined to Bounce Back After Disappointing Finish: “I Owe Detroit More”
After a promising season, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch is using the offseason to refocus and redeem himself following a year he believes fell short of expectations. The talented defender, known for his versatility and hard-hitting play, has vowed to come back stronger in 2025 after what he described as a “disappointing finish” to the 2024 season.
Branch, who transitioned into a full-time safety role, played a key part in the Lions’ defensive efforts but felt he could have done more, especially in crucial late-season moments. Despite finishing with four interceptions, multiple tackles for loss, and a Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 83.7, Branch was critical of his own performance.
“I take full responsibility for not making enough impact plays when the team needed me most,” Branch said in a recent interview. “I know I can be better, and I owe it to Detroit, my teammates, and myself to elevate my game.”
The Lions’ defense, plagued by injuries throughout the year, leaned heavily on players like Branch and Kerby Joseph in the secondary. However, late-season struggles exposed weaknesses, leading to early playoff elimination. While Branch wasn’t solely responsible for the team’s defensive lapses, he isn’t making excuses.
“Football is a game of inches, and I feel like there were plays I left on the field,” he admitted. “I’m using that as fuel. I’m watching every mistake, every missed opportunity, and making sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Lions head coach Dan Campbell has expressed confidence in Branch’s ability to bounce back, praising his work ethic and leadership. With another offseason of development, the young defensive star is determined to turn his frustration into motivation and help lead Detroit to greater success in 2025.
