In the wake of the Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade star point guard Luka Doncic, one coach of the team has departed from the organization. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, coach Marko Milić has left the team following the trade of Doncic.
Milić was the first Slovenian to play in the NBA and decided that he didn’t want to stay with the Mavericks without Doncic. Milić had been with the Mavericks since joining head coach Jason Kidd’s staff in 2022.
Milić has strong ties to Doncic from his time as an assistant coach with the Slovenian national team. The news of Dallas trading Doncic likely rubbed him the wrong way and he clearly wants no part of the Mavericks organization anymore.
It remains to be seen what will happen with his career but there is always a chance of a reunion with Doncic in Los Angeles. The Lakers will likely want to keep Doncic happy and if bringing Milić aboard will do that, it will be an easy decision.
This news of Milić leaving the team comes shortly after comments from Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont came out. It was the first time that Dumont had spoken publically since the trade of Doncic and his comments likely will enrage many fans.
