Breaking: Fans pile on new Indiana coach Darian DeVries for shady move…

Indiana formally introduced Darian DeVries as their new men’s head basketball coach on Wednesday, and DeVries is already facing some criticism over the process that led to him landing in Bloomington.

Mike Woodson stepped down as the head coach at Indiana following a 19-13 season that saw the Hoosiers miss the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive year. Woodson had faced growing backlash from fans, which is why many saw the change coming even before Indiana announced it.

The big question now is when Indiana knew they were going to replace Woodson with DeVries, who just finished his first and only season at West Virginia. When asked about that on Wednesday, DeVries all but admitted that he had a handshake agreement in place with his new employer at some point during the 2024-25 season.

“Obviously, the process is the process. I know how it plays out,” DeVries told reporters. “As you’re going through their season, they were very respectful of making sure that my focus continued to be on our team. I certainly appreciated that.”

That type of thing happens all the time in college basketball and all major sports. What some fans are really in an uproar over is how DeVries’ son, Tucker DeVries, factors into the equation.

Tucker was a star player under Darian at Drake and then followed his father to West Virginia last season. The senior averaged 14.9 points per game in eight games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He missed enough time that he was eligible for a medical redshirt, which granted him an extra season of eligibility.

Given the way everything has played out, many have theorized that Tucker — at the very least — exaggerated his injury so he could maintain eligibility and play for his father at Indiana.

Titans’ public courting of Cam Ward ahead of draft is actually great for Browns…

This might be the weirdest draft cycle in a while for the Cleveland Browns. They’re one of several high-pick teams in desperate need of a starting quarterback, and they’re looking down the barrel of a quarterback class that basically has one sure-thing starter in it.

That player, Cam Ward, is also slated to go just one pick ahead of the Browns’ No. 2 selection, straight to The Volunteer State. The Titans are just as hungry for a franchise QB to grace their locker room once again, and Ward seems like their best chance in a while to achieve that. Good for them.

Cleveland now has to figure out what to do at quarterback in the draft – if anything at all. They can also go for a player like Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall instead, and take a quarterback to develop later in the draft. Yes, that’s Jalen Milroe’s music you’re hearing.

Or, they can pick Shedeur Sanders at that spot and build around the signal caller with a few flaws to work out but a solid floor to reach.

Given the latest news about the Titans’ courting efforts around Ward, it could feel like Cleveland is just further between a rock and a hard place in their quarterback search. But, you could definitely argue that this is a great thing for them. Clarity is being provided to the Browns’ front office about their options with their top pick.

Through two rounds,This is the most watched NCAA Tournament in 32 years through two rounds…

The 2025 NCAA Tournament has become the most-watched in 32 years through its first two rounds, drawing record-breaking viewership and signaling a surge in the popularity of college basketball. As March Madness unfolds, it’s clear that the excitement surrounding the tournament has reached new heights, surpassing previous years in both engagement and anticipation. This surge can be attributed to various factors that have aligned perfectly, from high-profile upsets and thrilling game finishes to a broader cultural shift toward sports consumption.

First, the upsets and unpredictability of the tournament have captivated audiences. March Madness is known for its shocking outcomes, where lower-seeded teams frequently topple established powerhouses. This year, fans have been treated to more upsets than usual, with underdog teams like the 14th-seeded squad knocking out higher-ranked programs, sparking social media buzz and conversation. These surprise victories generate significant interest from fans of all schools, regardless of their specific allegiance, contributing to the overall viewership spike.

Secondly, the quality of play has been exceptional. College basketball has seen a noticeable rise in talent over the past decade, with elite high school players choosing to play in college rather than go straight to the NBA or pursue other professional avenues. The tournament has become a showcase for this talent, with players like emerging stars in the 2025 bracket captivating audiences with their performances. These athletes are often playing for future NBA spots, raising the stakes and making every game feel more significant.

Moreover, the NCAA Tournament has benefitted from modern technology and the way it intersects with sports consumption. With streaming platforms and social media playing a larger role than ever, fans are more engaged with the tournament than in previous years. Games are now available across a variety of platforms, allowing fans to watch games live, engage with real-time statistics, and follow their teams and players with unprecedented access. Social media provides fans a platform to discuss, analyze, and celebrate every thrilling moment of the tournament, further feeding the buzz.

The increased number of games and their broader coverage have also contributed to this surge. The first two rounds of the 2025 NCAA Tournament featured more games on more platforms than ever before, allowing fans to follow the action all day long. Networks like CBS, TNT, and TBS have been broadcasting the games, while streaming services have provided more accessibility to fans on the go. This round-the-clock coverage ensures that no matter where a fan is, they can catch a piece of the action. Additionally, the rise of sports betting has also played a significant role in increasing viewership, as fans are more inclined to watch games when there are financial stakes or bets on the line.

Another contributing factor is the narrative-building surrounding the tournament. Media outlets and broadcasters have done an excellent job of focusing on key storylines, such as potential Cinderella teams, rivalries, and the battle for the National Championship. These narratives give fans something to root for beyond just their own teams, building a sense of anticipation and excitement as each round unfolds.

Finally, the cultural importance of March Madness cannot be overlooked. The tournament has become a defining cultural moment, with brackets being filled out by casual fans, celebrities, and businesses alike. It has transcended the sport itself, becoming a shared experience for people across the country. The collective excitement surrounding the tournament brings together fans from all walks of life, regardless of their level of interest in basketball, creating a unique form of community that further drives viewership.

In conclusion, the 2025 NCAA Tournament’s record-breaking viewership through the first two rounds is a testament to the growing appeal of college basketball and the power of March Madness as a cultural phenomenon. With upsets, high-quality play, technological advancements in streaming, and compelling narratives, the tournament is attracting a more diverse and engaged audience than ever before. As the tournament continues, it seems likely that this year will go down in history as one of the most exciting and viewed March Madness events ever.

Four Gamecocks Earn All-America Status

In a remarkable display of talent and excellence, four members of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team have earned All-America honors for the 2024-2025 season. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the program, which has continued to assert its dominance in collegiate basketball under head coach Dawn Staley. The four athletes recognized with All-America honors have proven to be invaluable assets to the team, combining individual brilliance with a shared commitment to success.

Leading the charge is senior forward Aliyah Boston, whose impact on the court has been nothing short of extraordinary. Boston, already a two-time NCAA champion and a multiple-time All-American, once again cemented her legacy as one of the top players in the nation. Throughout the season, she demonstrated an exceptional ability to dominate both ends of the floor, providing a scoring and rebounding presence that was nearly unmatched in college basketball. Boston’s athleticism, basketball IQ, and leadership have been key to the Gamecocks’ success, and her All-America selection further solidifies her place among the elite players in the game.

Joining Boston is sophomore forward Kamilla Cardoso, who has quickly emerged as one of the most dominant bigs in the country. Cardoso, a transfer from Syracuse, brought a new level of physicality and skill to the Gamecocks’ frontcourt this season. Standing at 6-foot-7, she uses her size to control the paint, while also showcasing a refined offensive game that includes a soft touch around the basket and the ability to stretch the floor. Cardoso’s selection to the All-America team highlights her rapid development and significant contributions to the Gamecocks’ success on both offense and defense.

Alongside these two standouts is guard Zia Cooke, a player who has been a vital part of the Gamecocks’ backcourt for several years. Known for her quickness, agility, and scoring ability, Cooke has continued to evolve into one of the best guards in the nation. Whether it’s hitting clutch shots, facilitating the offense, or playing tough defense, Cooke has proven herself to be an all-around player. Her All-America recognition is a testament to her relentless work ethic and the impact she has on every game, often providing the Gamecocks with a spark when they need it most.

The fourth Gamecock to earn All-America honors is forward Laeticia Amihere, a versatile player whose defensive prowess and ability to contribute offensively have been critical to the team’s success. Amihere’s athleticism and ability to guard multiple positions make her a matchup nightmare for opponents, while her offensive game continues to grow. Her selection as an All-American is a reflection of her hard work and development, as she continues to make significant strides in her role with the team.

These four players have been integral to the Gamecocks’ rise to prominence in women’s college basketball. Their recognition as All-Americans speaks to the strength of the South Carolina program, which has become a perennial contender on the national stage. Under the leadership of Coach Staley, South Carolina has continued to attract top talent and develop its players into some of the best in the country. The accomplishments of these four players serve as a testament to the program’s commitment to excellence, and their individual successes are a reflection of the team-oriented culture that has defined South Carolina women’s basketball.

As the Gamecocks look to the remainder of the 2024-2025 season, the leadership and talent of these four All-Americans will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in the team’s quest for another NCAA championship.

Alabama star on Robert Morris trash talk: ‘We gave their ass what they wanted’…read more…

As Robert Morris prepared to face Alabama basketball to begin the NCAA Tournament, Colonial guard Kam Woods, a native of the Yellowhammer state, was asked about UA’s Mark Sears during a press conference on Thursday. Woods was largely complimentary, but stressed that Sears is “human” and expressed confidence in his No. 15-seeded team.

“We’re just looking forward to the matchup,” Woods said. “It’s a matchup that a lot of mid-majors in the country want, so we’re just taking it as a regular game, no matter the impact on the names.”

Alabama must have heard. Robert Morris scared the Crimson Tide, even taking a second-half lead. Still, UA won and advanced to the second round, where it will play Saint Mary’s on Sunday.

After the game, Crimson Tide forward Mo Dioubate recalled the comments, and said the game featured plenty of conversations on the court.

“I love it, I love that energy,” Dioubate said. “The other team, they started getting a little chirpy. We responded. We did a little talking too, but we responded on the court. They said, prior to the game, they was looking for a matchup like this all year. We gave their ass what they wanted. So we love it. We love that energy man. We’re gonna always respond the right way.”

Dioubate finished the game with 18 points. He also led the Crimson Tide in rebounds, with 10.

He said the trash talk on the court is one of the things he enjoys about playing basketball.

“I’m from New York City, so I love that kind of energy sometimes,” Dioubate said. “It’s necessary for the game, to bring fun into it. Make guys play harder. So they were doing a lot of talking man, and we just responded man. We don’t care who you are, what team you is, what ranking. If you’re a good team, bad team, it don’t matter. We’re gonna bring the same energy to anybody.”

Next up, Alabama faces Saint Mary’s. The Crimson Tide and Gaels will face off Sunday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line.

Jon Scheyer Makes History: First ACC Head Coach and Duke Blue Devils Coach Ever to Receive Invitation to Prestigious Presidents Cup

Jon Scheyer, the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team, has made history by becoming the first head coach from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the first Duke Blue Devils coach to receive an invitation to the prestigious Presidents Cup. This invitation is not only a remarkable personal achievement for Scheyer, but it also highlights the broader impact he has made in the world of sports and his influence beyond the basketball court.

The Presidents Cup is one of the most prestigious and exclusive events in the world of golf, bringing together some of the best players from the United States and internationally. The event serves as a platform to showcase the highest levels of competition and sportsmanship, and for Jon Scheyer, an invitation to this elite gathering is a testament to his reputation as a leader and his connection to excellence in sports. This year’s invite comes as a surprise to many, given that Scheyer is primarily known for his basketball career, and his inclusion underscores the growing recognition of his influence within and outside the realm of college basketball.

Scheyer’s journey to this point is one of perseverance and determination. A former star player at Duke University, Scheyer’s transition from player to coach seemed almost destined given his deep ties to the program. After completing a highly successful college career, which included winning the NCAA Championship in 2010 under the legendary Mike Krzyzewski, Scheyer immediately began working as a coach. His coaching prowess was evident early on, and he earned a spot on the Duke coaching staff under Coach K, where he was instrumental in the development of some of the team’s top players.

When Coach Krzyzewski retired in 2022, Scheyer was named his successor, taking over a program that had been a national powerhouse for decades. His ability to fill the shoes of one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history was no small feat. However, Scheyer has proven to be more than up to the task, guiding the Blue Devils to continued success on the court and quickly establishing himself as a respected figure in the basketball community.

What makes Scheyer’s invitation to the Presidents Cup particularly notable is that it speaks to his broad influence. As a coach, he’s known for his tactical acumen, leadership, and commitment to developing young athletes, but it’s his sportsmanship and character that have earned him recognition beyond the basketball court. Scheyer’s ability to connect with others and his passion for promoting the values of sportsmanship make him a perfect fit for an event like the Presidents Cup, which places a premium on integrity, respect, and the pursuit of excellence.

Being invited to such a prestigious event as a coach from the world of basketball is a significant moment in Scheyer’s career and a historic one for the Duke basketball program. It symbolizes the recognition of his leadership not just in basketball, but across all sports. This honor also reflects well on the ACC, as it highlights the conference’s prominence in nurturing coaches who are not only skilled on the court but are leaders who can influence sports culture as a whole.

As Jon Scheyer prepares to attend the Presidents Cup, his invitation serves as a reminder that sports transcend the boundaries of individual games and that the influence of great leaders can extend far beyond the arenas where they compete. It’s an exciting chapter in Scheyer’s career, and his continued success promises to inspire future generations of athletes and coaches alike.

Senator Justin Eichorn was arrested last week after Bloomington police say he was caught in a prostitution sting targeting people looking for minors.

Police said Eichorn was texting with an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl. After negotiating the price and terms of the encounter, police say they arrested Eichorn when he showed up for the meet-up. Police said he had cash, condoms, and two cell phones in his truck.

Days after the arrest, following pressure from both sides of the aisle, Eichorn resigned from the Minnesota Senate.

Bloomington police arrested eight other people in the same sting.

Eichorn was initially charged in state court, but the case has now been moved to federal court, where he faces charges of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.
